Beta Views: Implementation History for Features, User Stories, Bugs, Tasks and Requests

This visualized timeline shows full progress including all the state changes, time spent, responsible persons, impediments, added and closed bugs, and tasks. More on how the Visual Flow can help you.

Visual Flow

Mashup Manager: basic release

On-Demand users can create their own mashups in minutes or re-use out-of-the-box mashups. Note: you need Admin rights to create and manage mashups.

Mashups manager

Multi-select custom fields (not available in Beta Views so far)

It’s finally there. If you need a custom field with multiple choices, you can now use it.

Multiple Selection

Burn Down calculation when Time Tracking is not used

Now you can have accurate burn downs even if you don’t use time tracking at all. Just update the remaining effort in Task Board and check the progress on Sprint Burndown chart.

Tasks added to Prioritize screen

Order Tasks, Stories and Bugs by their priority for your developers

REST API fixes and improvements

  • REST: Test Plan Run collection for Test Plans added
  • REST: HTTP 500 error for requests if user logged with Windows Authentication
  • REST: exception on resetting custom field value to NULL
  • Plugins: Logs and Data Folder not deleted when TP is updated

Other Fixes

Our real Kanban Board snapshot. Note that it is enhanced by two mashups: Team Load (by @alexsane) and Classes of Services (by EugeneKha).

Live Kanban Board Jan 13

Current development status @ TargetProcess. Important things are highlighted:

TargetProcess Kanban Board

Prioritization in Kanban Board

Drag and drop prioritization is available on Kanban Board for User Stories and Bugs. You can reorder User Stories and Bugs in the Backlog, Planned and any other states. Just drag a User Story and move it where you want it to go.

Role-based Import and Export for Effort

You can import Effort for User Stories, Bugs, Tasks and Requests. It’s possible to import both the total effort for multiple roles and the effort for a single role, depending on how many responsible roles you’ve got for an entity.

See a boring list of other improvements and fixes below.

REST API

REST API improvements

  • Retrieve custom fields from different processes
  • Delete / Edit Attachments
  • Lowercase customFields post not working
  • POST to /resource/Id should update the resource with this ID

New (beta) Views improvements

  • Task view not updated if Task is assigned to User Story from another project
  • Remove Add Test Case link from Print view
  • Priority should be renamed to Business Value for User Story and Feature
  • ‘Spent’ and ‘Remain’ shown in Progress Bar if Time Tracking is disabled

  • Duplicate Bugs functionality not working in the old view
  • Process update failing if the process is used in deleted projects

Kanban Board Autorefresh

If you display Kanban Board on a large 50″ screen in your war-room, just setup autorefresh and stay tuned.

Redesigned Plugins List

New plugins deserve a new list. With new icons you will quickly identify each plugin. The list of recent profiles is available right away.

REST API: Basic Filtering

You can extract what you need with new filters in REST API.
For example, this request extracts all non-blocking bugs that are in progress:

/api/v1/Bugs?where=(EntityState.Name eq 'In Progress') and (Severity.Name ne 'Blocking')

Fixed Bugs

  • Update process throws “Unable to start web site. The directory is not empty”
  • [Plugins] “Check connection” should not take more than 5 sec
  • [Email Plugin]: uid case sensivity supported
  • Search for entity from deleted project triggers redirect loop
  • Open Assignmens: show entities assigned to user only if they are in the states this user is responsible for
  • Exception thrown on attachment opening by several users at a time
  • Navigation: Hide links in More menu if Practice is disabled in current context
  • Permissions: user cannot unassign all people if there’s no DELETE permission for selected entity type
  • REST: “Priority” field for Test Case added
  • REST: if more than 1000 items requested, paging resets to 1000 items (not 25 as before)
  • REST: Custom fields should be available for Time entity

..The kanban contest started on TargetProcess Facebook page at the beginning of this week, and so far we have seen a very cool variety of Kanban boards.

If you like or are interested in Kanban you should defiantly go to our page and check it out and don’t forget to vote for your favorite ;)

But if you are using one, you should defiantly upload a picture, a short video or a note about it and join the real party, a party that you might be  going to leave with a brand new iPad!

…We are looking for the best or the coolest Kanban board out there. Hi-tech LCD screens, post-it notes, or tickets – we want to see what you use, and the best one of the lot gets to take home an iPad!

what-to-do2

Most of you use Kanban boards in one form or another. You might be using a whiteboard, or a virtual board supported by software. You might have a small board, or you might have a large one.

All you need to do, is upload an image or a short video (no more than 40 seconds) of your Kanban board to our wall.

Now, collect likes for your submission, and the two submissions with the highest number of likes will be reviewed by our judges to decide on the first place.

The competition is for 3 weeks, so you still got time to upload today, and start collecting those likes!

Remember to check the competition rules

The contest started on the 2nd of March 2011, and ends 21 days later, on the 24th.

Features

Kanban: Filter by iterations and releases
You can filter stories and bugs on Kanban Board by release and iterations now. This filtering enables  Scrum-ban development process and makes Kanban Board useful for iterative development activities like Release or Iteration tracking.

Other improvements
* Project Menu improved. You can quickly select/deselect all projects.
* Predefined Scrum process added (for new installs only)
* ID of the entity should be visible on Yesterday page

Fixed Bugs

#31331 System.OutOfMemoryException during large csv file import

On-demand servers will be upgraded over the weekend.

We have implemented cumulative flow diagram in TargetProcess v 2.15 as a tracking/reporting chart to get a quick overview of user stories in To Do, In Progress and Completed state:

cfd_default2

Why we have only 3 fixed states for cumulative flow diagram while all the states for User Stories and other entities are customizable? We could have enabled showing the count of User Stories in all the customized states, be it 6 or 7 or 8 states. But the visual diagram would have been too clogged this way. We had to either follow the reporting stats meticulously,  replicate all the states and counts in the digram and lose the visual UX of this chart, or to get it down to 3 basic  states such as ToDo, InProgress and Completed (all the customized states are just a variation for those 3 states, one way or another) and retain a good info-design.

Some people asked us to enable more detailed views in cumulative flow digram and we will consider implementing this in the future.

You’re welcome to submit your requests on cumulative flow diagram and other features to TargetProcess HelpDesk or to TargetProcess UX Group.

We released TargetProcess 2.18.2 today with several fixes and cute pics  in Kanban board: visual bugs and tasks count for user stories.

This is not an ultimate health diagnostic utility for user stories, but it’s at least possible to see right away how many bugs and tasks are wrapped in in it.

bugs

If you have any better images for “bugs” and “tasks” :) , you’re welcome to submit your comments to TargetProcess UX Group:

People ask this question quite often as probably there’s no quick shortcut from Kanban Board/Task board to the screen where customization is done.

Now, let’s see how we can change/add states for User Stories in Kanban board. The key to customizing columns is essentially changing states for User Stories. So, here’s our Kanban board:

kanban-board-1

We’ve got 5 states for User Stories in there: Planned, In Progress, In Testing, Analysis, Done.  Let’s suppose we want to remove Analysis column and replace it with Ready to Merge Column.

We need to go to Admin-Processes, and select the Process used for our Project (Kanban process in our case). Then we go to Workflow for User Story:

workflows-for-user-story

All of our existing states for User Stories are in there. Let’s now edit the states – replace the Analysis with Ready to Merge State:

analysis-ready-to-merge1

Don’t forget to click Save in the Add/Edit Entity State window, then Save Workflow.

Now let’s see what happens with the columns in our Kanban board:

ready-to-merge-state-added

Ready to Merge column is right there!

This works the same for Task Board. You need to add/edit/remove states for Tasks in Admin-Processes-Task-Workflow-Change State to customize columns in Task Board.
