How to control ability to estimate Effort for a Role
It is possible to assign users to any work item in Targetprocess. The list of roles in the Assignments can be customized. This article describes how to toggle the ability to input Effort estimates for a selected role.
Above we see QA Engineer, we want to give them the ability to estimate Effort, and deprive Designer this ability.
How it Works
The Has Effort setting for a Role determines whether it is possible or not to input Effort for the Role within the Assignments area. The list of Roles displayed with the Has Effort setting retain it globally.
Modify Role Settings Globally
Once you change the Has Effort setting for a role, the update affects all Users, Projects, and Processes in your Targetprocess instance. To modify the setting for an existing Role, use the guide for Administrators: How to configure Roles.
Be extremely careful when modifying existing Roles. Deactivation of the Has Effort setting for a Role may cause massive loss of previously made estimations for this Role in every work item in all Projects.
Modify Settings of Assignments and Roles in One Project Only
When you build a new Process and start new Project you may prefer to keep settings of Roles in your Process separate from existing ones. In this case we recommend following the steps below:
- Add new custom Roles to the system: How to configure Roles
- Clone one of the existing Processes or create new Process from scratch
- Create a new Project following the new Process
- In the Workflow settings of your new Process, replace existing Roles with your new custom ones: How to add and remove Roles in Assignments?
