Solution Overview

The solution enables views to support Pre-Plan and Coordinate and Deliver activities during a Solution Train PI Planning Event.

Pre-Plan

Pre-Plan describes the activities that align and prepare ARTs within a Solution Train for PI Planning.

ARTs on a Solution Train plan their work through a series of common, cadence-based PI Planning events. So, the first step is to create an alignment and apply a common cadence to the building and deployment phases. Using the Generate Solution Train PIs / ART PIs / Team TIs based on Periods solution, you can create the same cadence of Solution Planning Intervals for Solution Trains and further create Planning Intervals for ARTs. On the Solution Planning Intervals view in the left menu you'll see a list of generated Solution Planning Intervals based on your Custom Periods.

On the Solution PI Schedule view you'll see the visualised roadmap of the Solution Planning Intervals for better visibility.

Plan Capability Delivery

To prepare for ART PI Planning, Solution Train and ART leaders discuss this work and agree on a set of prioritized capabilities they anticipate the teams will be able to support in the upcoming PI. Capabilities can be assigned to Solution Trains and ARTs on the ST and ART Backlogs view:

On the Capabilities by PI view you can see which Capabilities are assigned to which ARTs, as well as to which Solution Train PI. Use the filters on the top of the screen to focus on the needed Solution Train, ART or Period.

Resolve Solution Train Dependencies

On the Cross Solution Train Dependencies board you can see if the Dependencies Solution Trains have. You'll see what Solution Train created a Dependency (Requesting Solution Train) and which Solution Train is Responsible for it (Assigned/Providing Solution Train) to review Dependencies and spot planning issues.

Coordinate and Deliver

Coordinate and Deliver describes the practices Solution Trains use to maintain the alignment and collaboration needed to continuously deliver value to large solution customers.

During planning, teams build a Solution Train Planning Board. This board is like the ART Planning Board but focuses on the Capabilities to be delivered. Here you can see which Iteration each Capability is going to be delivered (based on latest Team Iteration of the Capability Features)

Connected Kanban System

Kanban systems are used throughout SAFe, including the Portfolio, Large Solution, and Essential levels (ART and Team). Connected Kanban Systems view illustrates how work goes through the various Kanban systems and backlogs that manage the workflow. Kanban systems help strategy changes move quickly across value streams to the implementation teams. Focusing on a specific Portfolio Epic or Epic you can quickly see at which state it's child items – Features, User Stories and Bugs.

Note: To enable Children Relations visibility click Actions, click Show button for Relations and leave only Children items check box checked.
