Did you know Internet Explorer 11 was released in 2013? It was a great browser back then. Years passed, Internet Explorer 11 became technologically obsolete and increasingly difficult to support. The growing gap between IE11 and other browsers means that we have to keep about 30% of the frontend code base dedicated to IE11 exclusively. While the developers can spend time on developing really cool features, they have to put tremendous effort into IE11 support. This led us to the decision to discontinue supporting this browser.
Starting from July 1, 2020 Internet Explorer 11 will no longer be supported. After that date, Targetprocess functionality may not work in IE11, bugs related to IE11 will not be fixed. On the good side, we will be able to reduce the code base, improve performance, and develop new functionality faster.
What does this mean for you?
If you are not using IE11, you don't have to do anything. If a Microsoft browser needs to be used, you will have to switch to Microsoft Edge.
The full list of supported browsers is:
- Google Chrome (recommended)
- Mozilla Firefox
- Apple Safari (not supported on Windows)
- Microsoft Edge
Goodbye, Internet Explorer 11, and thank you for all the good times we had together!
