Required one of the following solutions to be installed:
- Cost per Point (Agile Release Train) (6821f8d1-e556-4d2f-888d-325077c7ba19) - if you want to calculate Estimated Cost based on ART's Cost per Point
- Cost per Point (Team) (05e96729-8bbb-46d3-b66c-0579eca401a3) - if you want to calculate Estimated Cost based on Team's Cost per Point
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Solution Overview
The solution enables the calculation of an Epic or Feature Estimated Cost based on its Initial Estimate in points and an assigned Agile Release Train's (ART) or Team's Cost per Point. For example, if a Team estimates a Feature as 100 points, and this Team's Forecasted Cost per Point for the is 300 USD, the Estimated Feature Cost will be 100*300=30000 USD.
Note: If an Epic/Feature has more than one ART or Team assigned, the solution will take an average value of their Cost per Points.
Solution Installation
Choose if you use Team's or ART's Cost per Point
Work Estimated Cost for Epic and Feature can be calculated based on an assigned ART's Cost per Point or based on an assigned Team's Cost per Point. So you need to decide, which option you would like to use, and update Automation Rules respectively. By default they are configured for Team's Cost per Point. If you want to use ART's Cost per Point, please do the following:
- Go to Settings -> Automation Rules
- Open the following rules one by one:
- Work Estimated Cost - Feature update trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Feature Team Assignment trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Epic update trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Epic Team Assignment trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Epic ART update trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Initial calculation for Features
- Work Estimated Cost - Initial calculation for Epics
- Click JSON tab
- Update the following parameter:
- AgileReleaseTrainOrTeam - possible values are AgileReleaseTrain or Team
- Save the rules
Choose if you use Features or Epics (Capabilities) or both
If you only need an Estimated Cost to be calculated for a Feature or an Epic, you may disable some rules, so they are not triggered if not needed. For Lean Business Case (LBC) you'll need both – Epics and Features – Estimated Cost.
If you use only Features, please disable the following rules:
- Work Estimated Cost - Epic update trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Epic Team Assignment trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Epic ART update trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Initial calculation for Epics
If you use only Epics (Capabilities), please disable the following rules:
- Work Estimated Cost - Feature update trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Feature Team Assignment trigger
- Work Estimated Cost - Initial calculation for Features
Calculate Estimated Cost for existing Features or/and Epics (Capabilities)
If you already had Estimations in points for Features or/and Epics (Capabilities), you need to trigger the calculation of Estimated Cost for them. To do that:
- Go to Settings -> Automation Rules
- Enable and open the following rules (the first one for Features, the second is for Epics (Capabilities)) one by one:
- Work Estimated Cost - Initial calculation for Features
- Work Estimated Cost - Initial calculation for Epics
- Click Save and Trigger now button
As a result the Estimated Cost will be calculated for existing items.
Note: Please make sure you have Initial Estimate and current or future Cost per Point calculated for Teams or ARTs to get the Estimated Feature or Epic Cost calculated.
